Born and raised in North London, Tanyel Wickens gained an avid interest in motorcycles from a very early age. After scraping together enough money for her first bike (a second hand Chinese Sukida 125), she quickly became committed to learning how to fix her own vehicle and learn about the intricacies of motorcycle mechanics. From there, a profound love was born.

She gained her first apprenticeship by hitting the streets; walking into any motorcycle dealership she could find and asking the owner to work, for free if she had to. Miraculously, someone eventually recognised her potential and said

yes. Her natural talent was immediately obvious.

From there her skills expanded: she became a certified Motorcycle Technician, gained notoriety and her rise through the ranks was meteoric. After only a few months at a new shop she was promoted to head mechanic in one of the most

fiercely male-dominated industries in the world.

Tan is a living example of dauntless ambition and unapologetic boundary-pushing women.
